仕事中、携帯電話に着信を知らせる光が瞬く。
こんな日中に着信とは悪い知らせに違いない、と固唾をのんで見守る。留守番電話としてメッセージが吹き込まれるのを緊張しながら睨みつける。
終業後、張り裂けそうな思いで伝言を再生すると携帯電話会社のお姉さんから機種変更のプランの説明のために電話したとやさしく教えてもらう。鈴のような声は「おてがみを出しますのでご覧になってください」と告げて、去って行った。
おてがみ、おてがみ、とその響きだけで浮かれたがあれから3日、おてがみはまだ届かない。
